Re-seeding

I'm luxuriating in what will likely be the last truly cool days here until next December. The rain has returned, badly needed. There have been bits of beauty in the last few weeks: my red salvia after being watered, lovely blossoms at the Japanese Garden. The red salvia have even re-seeded themselves, which is quite exciting to a beginning gardener like myself! They're popping up all over and will look lovely once they grow. I spent a lot of time weeding this week and made enough progress to be able to plant a few things in the big empty spot where we lost a tree in the hurricane last fall. I will be relying heavily on salvias because they do so well here, and there are many varieties of them. The weeding was rewarding; there's something exhilarating about hard work. I've also planted a few varieties of thyme along the front walk, not so much for herbal use as for groundcover and a nice scent. I hope they do well.
Speaking of the salvias re-seeding, wouldn't it be nice if our energy and creativity just re-seeded themselves as easily as the salvias do? After our fourth (and last) round of week-long houseguests in two months, I find myself a bit at odd ends, procrastinating on all the things I need to do, even the fun things. But at least I could bring myself to pull weeds!
What are you up to?

These pictures are lovely. We have been busy with various church services and Niko's art and play class. Hope you have a nice weekend!

thyme makes the BEST ground cover. i finally had to pull out a bunch so i could get ready to plant some new things this year. it was a force to be reckoned with. Now I'm just waiting on the last approved frost day :P Not that it will make a difference, it snowed in april last year!

I enjoyed the photos too. I'm busy today getting ready for Brad's birthday this weekend. Mentally, I'm bracing for the busy warm weather season too. Not with gardening, but with Nate doing track and then baseball. Summer just seems busy. I'll be glad for warm weather but one thing I like about winter is the slower pace.

Your photos are stunning, as always. I wish I was more motivated to garden but it always seems last on my list. Luckily plants love California even if I don't tend them very well.

Here, my snapdragons have re-seeded themselves. I wish more flowers would do that! It's hard for me to pull weeds when I wonder what living thing that weed may turn into...last year I had one that turned into a sunflower (probably from the neighbor's birdfeeder)!

Oh, your pictures are so lovely. I would like a dose of re-seeded growth and energy, too, please!

Thyme is one of my favorite things to grow; just make sure they get lots of light and not too much water. I love all the different varieties and scents you can get.

Come weed my flowerbeds when you're done with yours. We've had a week of rain and more on the way and the weeds are taking over!

I loved all your comments! Thanks for the tips on thyme. So far, so good. We'll see how it does in the rainy Houston summer.
