Anticipation

Late afternoon in a Houston city park

This photo always reminds me of my sister's visit at Thanksgiving two years ago, and it reminds me of autumn and of all the things still to be explored (and photographed!) in this place I currently live. With my sister and autumn in mind, I'm eagerly anticipating my visit north in a few days, where I'll get to see her and experience autumn at home (it won't be autumn down south for quite awhile.) Of course, there's all the other good things that come along with a visit home: family, little ones to entertain, old friends, walks, hikes, tea and coffee downtown in cozy shops. I'm trying to focus on these good things more than on my flight phobia; it's only been this year that I've gotten on a plane again after seven years on the ground. My trip this week will be my first flight alone in a long time. This flight phobia story deserves a post of its own at some point!

What are you anticipating right now? How do you approach your fears?

i am awaiting an October trip to Halifax (Eastern Canada, think Atlantic Ocean and English things), some new warm clothes for the trip, and books from 8th day books...

a thought...perhaps pray an Akathist before your flight for reassurance... for dealing with my fears i articulate them... for worries in the middle of the night i find prayers to one's gaurdian angel from an Orthodox prayer book helpful.

ps: had to redo the comment, the deleted one above is my fault, fyi!

I'm heading up country on friday to gather with my sisters and Dad, can't wait, though I find it hard to leave home! And however good a trip away is, I love coming home afterwards. For facing fears, I support myself with flower essences. Have a great time, and I hope the flight isn't too challenging.

fear for me include tears and most times (in the past) I hastily wiped them away but now let them flow and really feel the warmth of the actual tears as they slide down my face ...it is a calming effect actually.

Yeah for family visits. I too am counting the days till I get to see my family at thanksgiving. They live a couple states away so we only get together once a year.

Hugs,
a.
P.S Planes? I'm in your camp. Don't care for them AT.ALL.

I'm anticipating getting over the hump of this busy, busy semester at graduate school. It's the hardest one yet, and possibly the hardest one ever...and soon it will be in the past!

I hope that you have a safe trip.

How do I face fears? I'd like to think that I, dive in head first! However, it can't always be true.
