A Robin Family

Robins are one of my favorite birds, mainly for their cheerful songs, which I love to wake up to when I stay up north, but also for the cheerful way they bob through the grass. A pair choose to make a nest on a ladder hanging on my dad's fence this spring. We waited eagerly for a few weeks while Mama Robin sat on the eggs. (I'd hoped to get a photo of the eggs, but there was no way they'd let me get close enough.) Just a few days before my time in South Dakota came to an end, they finally hatched. Their little mohawks of fuzz are pretty cute! I did feel a bit guilty about disturbing them, and Daddy Robin made a valiant defense of his babies, even hitting my hat once or twice. That's him in the third and fifth photos as he chased me around the corner of the house. Their nesting site seemed rather exposed, but hopefully a few babies will survive. I was so thrilled to see this little family. Any nesting going on in your neighborhood?

What wonderful photos (as usual)! I love robins too and love to look at their beautiful eggs! One of the birds I miss most from up north...

No nesting going on here (except for the preggo's in the family!)

Hope all is well!

We have lots of nesting going on...robins, cardinals, mourning doves and finches. We've enjoyed watching a fledgling robin being taught by the parents. The younger one can fly now but is still being trained. There is also another family of birds training their young ones. I think they are grackles. They are very noisy as the three fledglings vie for the worm from their parent.

We had a cardinal nest right next to our front porch. They were in a dither the other week when I had a garage sale and people were coming and going on our porch. A Carolina wren also made her nest in a lantern hanging on our porch!

Thanks for the Psalm verses relating to the flowers fading....I am going exploring in small towns around Sandusky. We're conventioning at Sawmill Creek Complex. Are you familiar with it?

Lovely! I love Robins.

I hear and see birds, but not their nests.

Cindy and Rebecca, sounds like you have a lot of fun birds to watch! I love cardinals - well, I love all of them. Except the grackles. Nasty birds. We have a young family in our trees as well.
